Goo Goo Dolls - Superstar Car Wash Guy Lite Brite Art

He said man, you want to be Elvis /

I said I ain't dying face down /

He said you've got to die facing up in the world /

'Cause there's too many (peg) holes around

Inspired by a shirt I got from my mom, I turned the little drawing that appears in the Goo Goo Dolls Superstar Car Wash CD booklet into Lite Brite art.

I fiddled with the head positioning and line thickness a lot. For the background, I was inspired by the brick wall on the back of the CD case. There aren’t any black or purple Lite Brite pegs so I used yellow like the background of the drawing, blue, and some orange for the orange on the CD.

For the final image, I tried modifying the Lite Brite with black Velcro in order to better position the LED light strips, but it turned out to be less bright with black. So I found some old fairy lights and pressed them into the white backing of the Lite Brite. This has proved to be the best method for constant lighting so far.

Superstar Car Wash is one of my all-time favorite Goo albums. From Fallin’ Down to Domino (my favorite) to We Are The Normal to On The Lie, it has a ton of hits in their earlier style.

Goo Goo Dolls were the first band I really got into as a kid. A Columbus stop on the Gutterflower tour was my first official concert. I remember having a blast and being so excited to wear the shirt I got (I wore it a lot.)

Materials used: Lite Brite, LUCKLED Starry String Lights.
