Dashboard Prophets - Burning Out The Inside Album Art

I discovered Dashboard Prophets while watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer at my aunt and uncle’s house when I was a kid.

Three Dashboard Prophets songs are heard in season 1: Wearing Me Down (The Harvest), Ballad for Dead Friends (The Harvest), and All You Want (The Pack). All three songs are played at The Bronze, and all three songs are awesome and very dark-club-indie-music-scene-esque - perfect tracks for the Sunnydale nightclub.

Back then Shazam didn’t exist, so the only surefire way to figure out a band name was waiting for the episode end credits and pausing the tv, or by typing lyrics into the internet. I forget which I did back then, but it is worth noting that even today, Shazam can’t identify any Dashboard Prophets songs.

Other favorites of mine from BOTI include Dismissing The Myth, Violated, 7 A.M., and Hatred For Hats. I distinctly remember playing Dismissing The Myth constantly one summer.

According to the liner notes, the man on the cover is Dan (perhaps Daniel from the band?) In the image he is wearing what I think is a tall hat (perhaps one he isn’t too fond of?) In my rendition I am wearing a backwards Oogie Boogie beanie.

To remake this rainy-flamey cover, I used two images, Photoshop, and Procreate. Getting a pose similar to Dan’s was challenging and I ended up with 23 outtakes. I watched some of my favorite Buffy episodes while putting it all together.
